Boonah Shire

Just an hour's drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast puts you in the Heart of the Scenic Rim - with its popular water skiing and fishing spots of Lake Moogerah and Maroon, seven national parks and some of the most picturesque mountain scenery in South - East Queensland.

The largest urban area, commercial and administrative centre is the town of Boonah .  Boonah township is the primary service centre which caters for the Shire’s needs and contains a range of business and commercial activities
including shopping facilities, Council Chambers, civic centre, hospital, retirement village, primary and secondary schools, sport and recreation facilities, parks and gardens, arts and cultural facilities, child care centre, day respite  care centre, churches, hotels, motel, caravan parks and showgrounds.

LOCATION

Located in the heart of the Valleys of the Scenic Rim is Boonah Shire, one of the most picturesque areas in Queensland encompassing some of the prime agricultural and pastoral lands in the State. Of course the Region boosts World Hertage listed Scenic Rim and National Parks. Just an hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it has a full range of recreation and sight seeing to suit all tastes.

POPULATION

Boonah Shire has a total population of 8535 with a recorded growth rate of 0.3% to the year 2000.   Based on historical data and Queensland’s expected forecast growth, the region’s rate of growth is forecast to remain positive at 1.2% until 2010.  Council predicts greater growth given:-
*Agricultural sector has favorable growing seasons; and/or
*Investment continues in emerging and established industries such as tourism.

Boonah Shire offers a blend of urban and low density rural residential living with a convenience of being within commuting distance to Ipswich and Brisbane cities.

CLIMATE

Boonah Shire experiences sub-tropical climatic conditions typically with warm wet summers and mild dry winters.   Boonah township is approximately 80 metres above sea level and is located latitude-28.0067 degrees south and  longitude 152.68 degrees east.

Average annual rainfall for the region is 866mm, equating to an average of 89 days of rainfall.

Temperatures range between daytime averages of mid thirty degrees centigrade in summer, to low twenty degrees centigrade in winter.
